Lifting the Sails of the Lungs: Yoga, Pranayama, and the Art of Breathing | Online Workshop

September 11, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

The lungs are delicate, highly sensitive tissues. They can be quickly opened through cardiovascular exercise or they can become closed and restricted due to states of tension and fear. In this time of the coronavirus, our lungs are susceptible to infiltration. How can we expand the sails of our lungs in yoga, improve circulation, and build defense?

In this class we practice postural movements to make the lungs more responsive and expandable. Learn how to safely open your lungs through pranayama, SATYA, supported asana, and physio-ball release work. This is an in-depth course on the motility of the lung relative to the diaphragm, intercostal muscles, and ribs. Tias begins by showing slides that detail the anatomical connection between the lungs, respiratory diaphragm, heart, and ribs. We will see that the branchlets of the lungs terminate in feather fine capillary beds, the primary site where the body absorbs prana.  Anatomically, we investigate the pathway of prana into the body, detailing the motion of the heart-lung pair, the bronchioles, alveoli, thoracic lymph nodes, and pulmonary veins. Tias guides intimate connection to the breath in meditation, asana, and pranayama.

This class promises to bring about lightness, space, and clarity within!

Cost: $65
